After hiking Lyon with a group (that will be a separate post) I took a ferry to VT to hike one of the high peaks there. It rained all night and I chose this hike over Mt. Mansfield based on what others have told me. it was still misty/rainy all day, but I was determined. I guess I’m not as much of a fair weather hiker as I used to be. The Burroughs trail is steep and steady all the way to the top. The summit is above the tree line, a large granite dome, where string has been placed to show people to stay off the delicate alpine grasses. I had views of the inside of a beautiful cloud as I enjoyed a summit beer and sandwich. I descended south along The Long Trail, where I excitedly survived some very sketchy rock scrambles and steep rocky drops. Remember everything was wet… I stopped and talked to one gentleman who’s trail name was Cobra Kai, he started hiking the AT 3/15/23 and was taking the LT just for fun. I shared my venison jerky with him, and he seemed very grateful. I slipped and fell a few times, but no injuries occurred. This hike was a quintessential high peak, so many parts of it reminded me of other HP ADK hikes. It ended up being about 6 miles, and it took me almost 6 hours, car to car! 50/115 Attached Files
