Grace.points and I got to the Waumbek trail-head early Sunday morning. We were the first vehicle there, and started hiking in the dark. We were able to turn off our headlamps pretty quick, and we could see pink and blue skies through the trees not long after that. The view through the hardwoods The elevation profile is pretty consistent to the summit of Mt Starr King, but the first mile felt steeper. That was probably just the feeling in our legs from the previous day's hike. This was our first time doing back to back 4000 footer hikes since last March. At the summit of Starr King, we had some views to the south and west, but the presidentials were in the clouds. The chimney remains on Mt Starr King A view to the south with Bretton Woods Ski Area Franconia Ridge in the distance The hike from Starr King to Waumbek was quick, as was the return. The view hadn't changed much when we returned to Starr King, so we didn't stop for long. The trail through snow covered spruce The hike out was quick. We more than half way out before we saw another person. After that, there was a steady stream of hikers on thier way up, for the rest of our hike out.
