Tom hiked Hurricane Mountain via the 9N trailhead on July 19, 2025, with his eight-year-old daughter on a slow, leisurely ascent. The summit was busy with good views; they spent 45 minutes on top and spoke with the summit steward. The descent was similarly relaxed with no significant trail hazards reported.

Hiker climbed Donaldson and Emmons on a wet, cold, rainy day with muddy conditions on the Calkins herd path, then returned on 6/2 to summit Hurricane (with good views) and Jay Mountains (with excellent views and spectacular rocky terrain). Hikers completed a traverse from Knoblock to Tripod on April 9 in frozen spring conditions with 1–2 feet of snow in places. Wore spikes throughout and encountered thick blowdown and new growth sections requiring some route-finding, but conditions were generally navigable and the frozen ground provided good support.

The trail includes white-blazed sections that transition to unmarked terrain requiring good navigation skills and steady nerves. Big Crow Mountain is a short, easy Adirondack hike featuring multiple open rock slab lookouts with excellent High Peaks views. The rocky sections are extremely slippery when wet but bone dry in good weather; the trail includes a few steep short sections but can be completed in about 90 minutes round-trip.

Big Crow Mountain is a steep but short hike in Keene, NY with excellent views of Hurricane Mountain and 28 other high peaks. The route can be extended as a loop by including Little Crow Mountain and descending via Hurricane Road.
