A mostly easy-to-navigate route. Trailhead info at bottom of this post.

This is one of the very best routes in the Adirondacks. The trail to Wright, Algonquin and Iroquois Peaks is long, but the views from these three epic summits provide some of the best views in the ADKs.

From its enormous summit Algonquin in particular has an incredible view of Colden and Mount Marcy , but also the Flowed Lands, and Boundary and Iroquois peaks, and the Sanatanonis , and the Great Range . Layers and layers of mountains, with lakes scattered among them. It’s kinda nuts. This hike was definitely my highlight of 2025.

This route includes three of the four high peaks in the MacIntyre Range . Mount Marshall is climbed separately.

In the high season, you will want to get to the Loj for parking by 6:00am. Directions and more info at the bottom of this post.

Please note: you will take 5,000 photos on this hike.

Wright, Algonquin & Iroquois Trail Notes & Gallery

This was my first time starting a hike from The Loj. I was so excited to finally be here and do a banger of a hike. But I really had no idea how much of a banger it would turn out to be. Definitely up there with the Dix Range .

Begin at the trail register at the back of Lot 1 . It’s very easy for a good while.

You will follow and cross MacIntyre Brook for the first section of this route, and the trail is very straightforward.

After about 2 hours, I made it to the junction to head up Wright Peak . It took me about 25 minutes to climb from the junction to the summit. It’s only about 600 feet of elevation gain but it’s relentlessly steep slab and, evidently, I was already pretty tired—and, of course, I was also stopping to take in the day’s first batch of incredible views…
