A temporary detour is in effect on the Appalachian Trail and Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail at Harriman State Park to cross the Palisades Interstate Parkway via the Anthony Wayne Overpass, with directions provided for accessing the West Mountain Shelter.

Temporary trail reroutes in Bear Mountain State Park due to construction between the parking area and trailheads, expected to continue until summer 2027. Detours posted around Hessian Lake with alternative routing options provided.

A section of the Highlands Trail in Byram, New Jersey will be closed from July 2026 to July 2027 for EPA cleanup work at the Mansfield Dump Superfund site. No detour is planned; hikers are advised not to trespass and to either bypass the section or wait for reopening.

Breakneck Ridge, Wilkinson Memorial, and Lower Brook trailheads in the Hudson Highlands remain closed until mid-2027 due to the Breakneck Connector and Bridge construction project that began in April 2025.

The New York Bridge Authority will conduct decking replacement and safety/accessibility upgrades on Bear Mountain Bridge (AT mile 1,409.8 northbound) beginning this year, with at least one sidewalk remaining open to pedestrians throughout the project. Completion is expected by Fall 2027 with no expected impacts to AT hiking itineraries.

The Giant Stairs section of the Shore Trail in Palisades Interstate Park has been closed due to a major rockfall and landslide that occurred on January 9, 2026, with ongoing risk of additional rockfall activity.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area announces winter road and parking closures effective January 2, 2026 or upon first significant snowfall, with most sites reopening April 15, 2026. Priority roads will be plowed, while secondary roads receive limited or no maintenance. Trails remain open but are not groomed and may be snow/ice covered.

Bear Mountain State Park trail closures and reopenings following July 2023 storm damage. Cornell Mine Trail reopened October 9, 2025; additional trails south of Anthony Wayne Recreation Area now open as recovery continues. Doodletown area trails slated for completion by late 2026.

Volunteers and staff completed reblazing and reconfiguration of trails in the southern section of Norvin Green State Forest in New Jersey as of late October 2025, creating several new color-blazed loops with improved navigation. Trail blazes were changed and multiple loops were created, including the High Point, Mine, Will Monroe, and Wyanokie Circular loops.

A wildfire in the Newark Watershed near West Milford, New Jersey has closed Clinton Road and multiple trailheads (P1N–P7) serving Newark Watershed and Wawayanda State Park. As of October 10, 2025, trailheads P3 and P4 West remain closed, while the Bearfort Waters Clinton/Highlands Trail co-alignment is unaffected.

Construction work is scheduled on Oil City Road including the Wallkill River bridge crossing used by the Appalachian Trail from August 19–September 2. Pedestrians can still cross but should exercise caution in the work area.

Sterling Forest State Park in New York has multiple trail closures due to the November 2024 Jennings Creek Wildfire; closures include portions of Bear Rock, Fire Tower, Lake to Lake, Sterling Ridge, West Valley, and Highlands trails and will remain in effect until further notice. Long Pond Ironworks State Park in New Jersey is open.
