Canyon Bridge on the Armstrong-Gothics-Wright trail approach is open with minor ongoing repairs. Some steps remain to be replaced on the western side but the bridge is passable.

DEC reopened the Stanley J. Hamlin Marsh Wildlife Management Area trail in Onondaga County after temporary closure for fire cleanup and boardwalk replacement. A boardwalk and viewing blind were destroyed by fire on May 13, 2026.

DEC and Peconic Land Trust completed trail realignment, habitat restoration, and waterfront access improvements at the 100-acre Broad Cove Preserve in Suffolk County. The work included removing invasive species, planting native vegetation, creating new trail segments, and installing observation areas to enhance visitor experience and wildlife habitat.

DEC and Hudson River Valley Greenway completed paving improvements on a 9.5-mile section of the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail in Columbia County, replacing stone dust with asphalt to address erosion and improve trail safety and resilience. The project was funded by the Environmental Bond Act and completed in June 2025 with additional drainage improvements finished in October.

Trail maintenance work was completed on Lost Clove trail in fall 2019, including clearing blowdown, pruning overgrown vegetation, and removing debris. The trail is a steep, underutilized woods road suitable for backcountry skiing and offers alternate access to Balsam Mountain.

DEC announces $677,000 in Smart Growth Grant awards to seven Catskill region projects, including trail improvements, accessible infrastructure, affordable housing initiatives, and comprehensive planning efforts that support sustainable recreation and community development.

A new sustainable trail to Cascade Mountain summit is under construction and nearing 80% completion, expected to open in 2024. The new route will be 11 miles round trip with 3,300 feet of elevation gain, substantially longer than the current route under 5 miles.

Bear Mountain State Park trail closures and reopenings following July 2023 storm damage. Cornell Mine Trail reopened October 9, 2025; additional trails south of Anthony Wayne Recreation Area now open as recovery continues. Doodletown area trails slated for completion by late 2026.

Volunteers and staff completed reblazing and reconfiguration of trails in the southern section of Norvin Green State Forest in New Jersey as of late October 2025, creating several new color-blazed loops with improved navigation. Trail blazes were changed and multiple loops were created, including the High Point, Mine, Will Monroe, and Wyanokie Circular loops.

A two-day backpacking trip to climb Gray and Skylight peaks in the High Peaks, with camping at Herbert Brook Lean-to. Trail conditions included recent trail work on Calamity Brook, a steep herd path ascent to Gray, and a 15-minute scramble to Skylight over exposed rock slabs with clear alpine conditions and excellent visibility.

Hiker completed a morning ascent of Twin and Indian Head via the Jimmy Dolan Trail on June 29th, starting before dawn from the Prediger Road trailhead. The well-maintained trail with good stonework and lookouts provided pleasant conditions, though the hiker was unable to locate the reported cliff view on Indian Head.

Henry's Woods is a 212-acre community preserve near Lake Placid offering a well-maintained network of trails through mixed hardwood forests and gentle hills suitable for hiking, running, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing year-round. The system features a 2.0-mile Loop Trail, 0.9-mile Plateau Trail, and 0.6-mile Rock Garden Trail at low elevation with no significant technical hazards.

A rock-slide in summer 2019 made the original Twin Mountain ledge section impassable and dangerous. After initial controversy over an iron rung solution, the DEC completed a reroute in November 2019 featuring stone steps and scrambling terrain.

Volunteer trail maintenance on Balsam Lake trail south side, completed in fall 2019; trail sections cleared of overgrowth and blowdowns to maintain clear tread and prevent social trail formation.

Onteora Lake offers three interconnected loop trails (yellow, red, and blue) near Kingston and Woodstock featuring lake and pond views, streams, old quarries, and hemlock forests. Recent trail improvements include regrading muddy sections and rerouting around a wet ledge. The area is generally easy terrain with some boulders and occasional cliffs.

Rochester Hollow offers three stacked trail options (3.5–6.1 miles) with mostly flat, ADA-compliant lower sections on an old road, followed by moderate terrain through historically significant farmland with stone fences and ruins.
